New York Fashion Week has begun and the top spots on the trend list for the new year are already starting to fill up. In the "hair" sector , designers followed the balletcore route, declaring ribbons the it accessory of 2024.
While ballet-inspired looks were all the rage throughout 2023, from the return of sleek ballet flats to nail bow designs, the delicate ribbons that appeared at the NYFW SS 2024 shows have a slightly different aesthetic. Rather than simply adding bows to buns, ponytails and braids, designers are weaving them into the hair in inventive ways, creating corset designs or using them as other hair extensions.

"The moment I saw the softness of the color tones, the richness of the construction and the tulle detailing of Christian's dresses, I knew I had to keep the hair soft with a ' clean girl' aesthetic, yet reminiscent of a fairy ballerina who would twirls on the runway ," said hairist Lacy Redway , who styled the models.
