What is the ideal snack?

The key features of the healthy snack

The right choice of small meals (snacks) in the context of a balanced diet plan helps to increase the intake of nutrients, maintain energy levels during the day, limit the feeling of intense hunger and meet the special nutritional needs of each person after excercise. At the same time, it allows the normalization of glucose and insulin levels in the body, which is particularly important for maintaining our health.

But what is the ideal snack?

The ideal snack is definitely not the same for everyone and there is not just one right choice, as the needs of each body are different. The only thing that is certain, however, is that if one chooses the right snacks, he will have benefits both in his health and in his energy. So, these are the best snacks to choose the right one for your daily needs.

Choose less processed foods

You don't need to stress to make the most "healthy" choices. You can choose foods that are less processed, such as whole grains instead of processed ones, traditional yogurts instead of sweetened desserts, chicken pieces instead of turkey meats that contain more salt and other additives, fresh fruits instead of the ready juices.

Plan the consumption time

The secret is not to wait until you're hungry. Observe the flow of your day, identify when you usually feel hungry and add the snacks of your choice a little earlier. This way, you will be able to control the amount of snacks you eat and avoid overconsumption, while at the same time you will adjust the snack times according to your schedule every day.

Add protein and healthy fats to your meal

Adding protein to snacks causes greater satiety while healthy fats are nutrients that are often missing from our diet. One of the best options is tahini or other nut spreads. It is a really healthy choice with an excellent taste, which can well replace even sweets, since the fats it contains immediately produce the feeling of satiety. Alternatively, you can consume unsalted nuts.

Do not prefer snacks in liquid form

Snacks such as juices and soft drinks cause blood glucose levels to spike and do not help with satiety. It would be best to accompany the consumption of your snacks with water, as it enhances the feeling of fullness and helps the body function properly.

And don't forget to enjoy your snack

Consciously eating small or mostly meals determines the level of satisfaction and enjoyment we get from them, which affects how much we eat and how long it takes until the next meal. So create the necessary space and time for your snacks. Give them their due value and surely, you will get the results you desire.
