What are stretch marks and their proper prevention/treatment
Stretch marks are a skin issue that concerns most women, as it affects all body/skin types as well as all ages. Their appearance occurs naturally on the skin, it happens to everyone without discrimination, while it is possible for a girl to get them even in early adolescence.
These are parallel lines, vertical or horizontal, with extent, length and thickness that vary according to the person, while they look like scratches that furrow the skin. They are mostly found on the arms, abdomen, chest, waist and legs, but can appear anywhere on the body. In the first stage they are pink or red in color, but gradually they fade and acquire a whiter shade, lighter than the normal skin tone. Usually, stretch marks do not cause pain or discomfort , but they do create an itchy feeling as the body begins the process of healing them.
When and why do they appear?
It is essentially a kind of scar , which appears in places where the skin has been stretched too much. When the tissues in the middle layer of the skin are stretched too much, then their elasticity is broken, and stretch marks appear.
That is why they are strongly observed in adolescence, due to the sudden increase in height which is extremely common especially in younger children. They can also be created by sudden and continuous weight fluctuations or weight gain in pregnancy. Almost 90% of women develop stretch marks during pregnancy in the abdominal area, usually in the last trimester of pregnancy as the baby begins to gain weight rapidly and the body finds it difficult to get used to this rapid change.
How will you deal with them?
Unfortunately, stretch marks never go away completely, once they are created. However, you can greatly improve their appearance by keeping the affected area very well hydrated. You can achieve this with creams and body oils that you will apply diligently and consistently every day, making light massage movements.
Note: It doesn't necessarily have to be creams aimed at treating stretch marks, it can be any oil or body cream you like, as long as it has very moisturizing elements.
In addition, a movement that greatly helps the skin to remain clean and hydrated is exfoliation. You can exfoliate with a scrub once or twice a week, depending on your needs. However, be careful if you are pregnant: ask your doctor for advice and in any case prefer mild exfoliating products with natural ingredients.
