Maria Louiza Vourou: Her tip to enjoy her favorite nutritional "mistake"

Maria Louiza Vourou became known as a presenter and is now a successful entrepreneur in the field of wellness. It is, in other words, the... ideal match for Shape! In a recent interview, in our August issue, Maria Louiza Vourou spoke, among other things, about her favorite not-so-healthy food but also about the way she manages to fit it into her general program, so that she enjoys it without guilt but also without impact on her body.

Do you follow a strict diet plan? What is your favorite not-so-healthy food?

I never followed a strict diet plan, because sometimes when I experimented, when I had a very strict diet plan, it didn't do me any good - at some point I would break out. And this is the first thing I say to the followers on Instagram and to the women we talk to on thehealthyplan.gr, that is to say, we should not do a program that pressures us, tires us and we see it as compulsive projects, because it is not going to have result. We must adopt a program that suits us and our daily life, not to deprive ourselves, to eat everything by making choices and in moderation.

To answer you about my own eating disorder… I really like pasta and burgers but, to be honest, I don't consider them to be a nutritional binge. If you choose something lighter or if you eat it at noon, when you will have time to "burn" it later, nothing terrible happened! Certain foods are blamed and we think that if you eat burgers, or pasta, or pizzas, or souvlaki, or fries, you can't be thin. This is a myth that has now been debunked.

Exercise or diet? Which of the two would you rate as more important for our good physical and mental health?

I think both are important, because they offer different benefits to the body and our mood. Exercise is a form of relaxation that helps us feel well and healthier physically and mentally. But nutrition is equally important, because when it's right, it changes our mood. Many times, when we eat something unhealthy, with a lot of oil, a lot of sugar, our body feels heavy, our skin dull, while as soon as we eat something more "healthy", our body reacts and we immediately feel better. So I can't separate them, I think both are equally important. Simply, depending on their daily life and preferences, everyone can emphasize one or the other.
